Riff Raff took the music world by storm in 2013 when he started his nationwide club tour to test singles from his debut album Neon Icon. At that time, he was already considered one of the most polarizing figures in rap music.
It's hard to ignore his loud style—the colorful cornrows, random tattoos everywhere, a quirky zigzag beard, and the flashy bling hanging anywhere possible.
The rapper even sued the people behind the movie Spring Breakers for stealing his signature look. In the movie, James Franco played a drug-hustling rapper who was also covered with tattoos, had cornrows, and wore Riff Raff's iconic teeth grills.
We may not be seeing much of the eccentric style icon anymore, but we still see those grills on Post Malone, A$AP Rocky, and other rappers. So what's with's Riff Raff teeth grills that they keep coming back?
Who Even Makes These Teeth Grills?
Riff Raff's grills are designed by Paul Wall. He is also a Houston rapper who's known for designing grills for rappers. He was even featured on Nelly's hit Grillz. Paul has also worked with the hip-hop king of bling, Johnny Dang. Johnny Dang has also made grills for Riff Raff. He continues to be the grill source for big names in the rap industry like Travis Scott, Post Malone, Snoop Dogg, etc.
Johnny Dang told Vice he always just wanted to create something different and start a trend. So that's how he started a whole culture of big diamond bling and fancy grills the designer himself admitted to being too high-maintenance. Rappers come to Houston just to get their custom jewelry pieces from him.
How Much Do They Cost?
A starter grill costs around $240-$500. That's for a standard six-tooth gold front. The most expensive one ever made according to Guinness World Records was $1 million. The grill was worn by Katy Perry and was made by Dr. Dorfman. The grill was made of real diamonds and other expensive gemstones. So how much are Riff Raff's iconic grills?

Johnny Dang has made shark teeth grills for Riff Raff that's worth over $21,000. No one knows what's the most expensive Riff Raff has spent on grills. Quavo spends $250,000 on them, so $21,000 is probably just an average price for a diamond accessory.
How Often Does Riff Raff Wear Them?
Riff Raff pretty much seems to be wearing grills on all his music videos, concerts, and regular social media posts. But like Johnny Dang said, wearing grills is high-maintenance. He said he couldn't even speak with them on. He said in his feature with Vice that it's also such a struggle dining out and having to remove your million-dollar grills for a while.
Just imagine carrying that whole precious item with you while you enjoy a nice meal with your friends and family. Riff Raff may be seen with his iconic shark grills all the time, but they can't really be worn for extended periods. So no, he doesn't wear them to sleep, he doesn't brush them like he would his regular teeth, and it's definitely all just for show and public appearances.

There are no studies saying wearing grills are harmful. There are no studies saying long-term use is safe either. It's the glue and other adhesives that could damage the teeth and gum tissue. Why Does Riff Raff Even Wear Them?
Now we've arrived at the most important question of them all. Why does Riff Raff even wear teeth grills if they're high-maintenance and expensive? The best answer to that would probably be, because why not? Riff Raff has clearly built his image with teeth grills included. It's what made Spring Breakers so memorable. James Franco's character is still a popular Halloween costume to this day.
Hip-hop fashion is also about the ridiculous display of extravagant jewelry. What better way to establish your dominance in the industry than wearing diamonds on your teeth, right? Just think about it, it's now hard to imagine famous rappers like Travis Scott or Post Malone without their gold or diamond grills.
