As it turns out, when Crown the Empire was still in its formative phases, Post Malone auditioned to play guitar in the band.

During a 2016 interview with the Alternative Press, Crown the Empire singer Andrew "Andy Leo" Rockhold confirmed that Post Malone was a part of an earlier band he was a part of. Furthermore, Rockhold talked about Malone’s failed Crown the Empire audition and how he missed out on joining the group.

“When Crown was looking for a guitar player, when we were still forming, I was like you got to try this guy and he was like my friend and stuff. Tried out, his guitar string broke in the, during the audition so he was like super embarrassed, and they were like, ‘Nah dude, I don’t think he’s that good’. But uh, he ended up doing his own thing, moving to L.A., producing that song himself I’m pretty sure, and then just, from then on it was baller as f**k now.”

From there on in the interview, Crown the Empire singer’s Andrew "Andy Leo" Rockhold went on to boast about Malone’s success clearly taking joy in his childhood friend’s success. Furthermore, Rockhold made it clear that he and Malone have remained pals and revealed that Post has introduced him to several notable celebrities. Next, Rockhold revealed that the guitar string misfire has stuck with Malone by saying he’d recently brought the subject up at the time of the 2016 interview. Finally, Rockhold talked about how great a guy Malone is and how much he deserves all of his success.

How Different Things Could Have Been

When you look at everything that Post Malone has accomplished during his relatively short life and how rich he has become, it is clear that things worked out for everyone involved. However, it is fascinating to think about how differently Malone’s life would have gone if his guitar sting didn’t break on that pivotal day when he was 15-years-old.

Considering that Post Malone has proven to be a talented musician, it certainly seems entirely possible that he could have been chosen to join Crown the Empire if his guitar string didn’t break. Considering that Crown the Empire is a successful band, Malone likely still would have enjoyed a solid career if he was a part of the band.
